Orange shirt day is a time to commemorate those who have survived Canada's residential schools. The orange shirt was chosen as the symbol of this day when Phyllis (Jack) Webstad told her story of her first day at residential school. She remembers arriving in a shiny orange shirt, which was purchased by her grandmother. The shirt was taken when Phyllis was six years-old. Orange shirt day is commonly held on September 30th. However, due to the recent excavations of Canada's residential schools, we wear orange to remember the children being found. 15% of each pin order will be donated to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society. This society provides services, such as: counseling, court support, information, referrals, workshops, etc., to survivors and their descendants. To learn more, go to https://www.irsss.ca.
