Orange shirt day is a time to commemorate those who have survived Canada's residential schools. The orange shirt was chosen as the symbol of this day when Phyllis (Jack) Webstad told her story of her first day at residential school. She remembers arriving in a shiny orange shirt, which was purchased by her grandmother. The shirt was taken when Phyllis was six years-old. Orange shirt day is commonly held on September 30th. 80% of each pin order will be donated to the Native Women's Shelter of Montréal. The NWSM provides an abundance of services to the Indigenous community, such as: food, shelter, therapy, sweat lodge ceremonies, etc. Also, they are in their second stage of their housing project located in Little Burgundy of Montréal.
